EXCAVATION
Between 2005 and 2018, various archaeological campaigns were carried out on the site now occupied by the lower ground floor of the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Málaga, next to the Villalón Palace. The work was directed by the Conservation and Archaeology Service of the Municipal Urban Planning Department of Málaga City Council, with the participation of the company Arqueosur.

the site
The site is an exceptional find in Malaga’s urban archaeology, covering an area of around 700 m², and is key to the study of Roman Malaca and its commercial activity. It preserves the remains of a salting factory, rooms from a domus and a monumental nymphaeum with figurative paintings that are unique in the province. Part of the layout of Roman streets and numerous everyday objects have also been documented, evidence of continuous occupation from before the 1st century AD until the early 7th century.

3D RECONSTRUCTION
The site has been reconstructed in 3D to offer a virtual tour that allows visitors to understand the commercial and port importance of ancient Malacca.
Visitors can access this reconstruction at the site itself using QR codes, which allow them to view 360º videos, and also on guided tours, where the experience can be enjoyed with virtual reality glasses. The virtual reality resources have been developed by Digivisión, producer of the RTVE documentary series Ingeniería romana (Roman Engineering).
